Meet your new Ostend Medical GP
Ostend Medical Centre is thrilled to announce that Dr Roddy MacVicar will be joining our team as a full-time GP on 2 November.
Dr MacVicar and his partner, Nastassja, are moving to Waiheke at the end of this month as they both embark on exciting new chapters—Roddy at OMC, and Nastassja in her new role as an island-based family lawyer.
About Dr MacVicar
After earning a bachelor's degree in Sports Medicine, Roddy completed his medical training at the University of Glasgow Medical School in 2019, receiving certificates of excellence in General Practice and Orthopaedics. He then moved to New Zealand to complete his training, starting as a Senior House Officer at Tauranga Hospital. For the past five years, he has worked across General Practice and A&E services in Tauranga and Mt Maunganui.
While Dr MacVicar continues to enjoy emergency medicine and orthopaedics, he also takes great satisfaction in supporting healthy ageing for his patients.
"Kia ora, I'm thrilled to be making Waiheke my new home and joining the local team as a GP. I am originally from Scotland but have lived in New Zealand for 5 years. When I'm not at work I love fishing, diving and everything outdoors. I look forward to supporting the community's health and getting to know you all!" — Dr Roddy MacVicar
Important Update: Patient Allocations & Enrolments
All patients at Ostend Medical Centre have a designated GP provider. This is primarily an administrative designation; we approach patient care from a team-based perspective to ensure you always see the most appropriate clinician for your specific needs on the day.
To ensure a balanced workload across our team, we will be shifting some patients’ designated provider listings from Dr Davis and Dr Douglass to Dr MacVicar.
Would you like to register with Dr MacVicar?
Before we perform a random administrative re-allocation, we want to offer our community the choice. We are actively looking for patients who would prefer to be registered with Roddy, particularly those who have a preference for a male GP.
How to request the switch: If you would like to be assigned to Dr MacVicar starting 2 November, please call our reception team on 09 372 5005.
As always, this designation does not change our team-based approach to your health. We look forward to continuing to provide the best possible care for you and your loved ones!
